What’s your student to counselor ratio? What are the biggest challenges facing middle school counselors today? AMLE sought to better understand the current state of middle school counseling programs by conducting a survey of its membership in February, 2025.
Survey Overview:
- Respondents: 60 unique schools across 2 countries and 26 states responded to the survey. The schools’ settings comprised 37% rural, 52% suburban, and 11% urban.
- School Size: School size was distributed as follows: 14% with less than 300 students, 34% with 300-600 students, 28% with 601-900 students, 18% with 901-1200 students, and 6% with more than 1200 students.
In addition to providing information on number of counselors and ratio of students to counselors, responses also provided insights on the goals, offerings, and efficacy of their programs.
