April 1st marks the beginning of Alcohol Responsibility Month. This is the perfect time to engage with your students and ensure they have the skills and information needed to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking and underage cannabis use. Middle school is a crucial time for students as they develop the ability and confidence to make good decisions. That is why Responsibility.org developed Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix, a free substance-use prevention curriculum for grades 4-8. The materials offer an effective way to teach students about how the developing brain works, what alcohol and cannabis do to it, and what that does to them. The program is aligned with national education standards, has been independently evaluated, and is versatile enough to be easily implemented in various settings.
In addition to Ask, Listen, Learn’s lessons on the impact of alcohol and cannabis on the developing brain, the program provides supplemental classroom activities and digital tools to empower students with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions.
Resources include:
- The Impact of Peer Pressure– Classroom activity exploring how peer pressure can impact responsible decision-making.
- The Importance of a Healthy Body– Classroom activity reinforcing the importance of students making healthy choices to support their developing bodies.
- Ask, Listen, Learn Kahoots!– Interactive games engaging students on the impact of underage drinking and underage cannabis use on the developing brain
- Self-Guided Student Activities– Self-paced modules teaching students about the effects of alcohol and cannabis on the developing brain, body and behavior.
We hope these resources will help your students to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to underage drinking and underage cannabis use. Don’t forget to check our blog and social media channels for updates on new resources and information.
